  • Is Free News Really Worth the Price?

    keighter:

I take issue with this because most of the time, the news doesn’t offer what this author claims.

“Newspapers — old-fashioned, ink-on-dead-tree newspapers — offer the scrutiny that politicians, bankers and diplomats try to obfuscate. They shine light where those in power seek the same darkness that cloaks Tehran.”

Most journalists are Washington insiders and cannot offer the perspective someone on the outside needs to understand many situations.

More Old Media vs New Media bullshit.  The problem I have with these grand dames of print publishing is that too often they rely on their reputation to sell copies rather than the quality of their journalism (this self-regarding piece being a reasonably good example).  The internet, and especially online news, blogging and the likes of Twitter, scare the old guard primarily because (regardless of the chaff thrown up by the counter argument) on the internet content is king and people don’t care where it comes from so long as it’s well written and reliable.

Or, in the case of LOL cats, funny and cute.

The nub is, on the internet people don’t care what your business model is or even if you have one.
